Rinsing Mukami's Soul Signing Announcement | Coming 2024

Jacaranda Books have signed a two-book deal with comedian and author Njambi McGrath for undisclosed sum with the first ‘incisive’ fiction offering: Rinsing Mūkami’s Soul coming February 2024.

In a deal brokered by CEO Valerie Brandes, Jacaranda Books has acquired the World Rights to two fiction novels by Njambi McGrath from Hannah Layton, who is now part of the Intertalent Group. McGrath made her literary debut with the “infuriatingly necessary” memoir, Through the Leopard’s Gaze, as part of the Jacaranda Books Twenty in 2020 campaign.

Departing from the memoir genre where she has excelled, McGrath will continue through fiction to tell Kenyan stories that shed light to truth starting with 16-year old Mūkami whose story will lay bare the contradictory societal responses to gender, sex and redemption. 

Njambi McGrath is a Kenyan born, UK based comedian and author. Amongst her amazing accolades, a hit Radio 4 series Becoming Njambi, 5 comedy specials available in a plethora of outlets including NextUp, Amazon, YouTube movies, Comedy Dynamics America. Njambi was voted 1 of 5 top female comedians to watch by Fabulous Magazine 2012, nominated Best Newcomer Black Comedy Awards 2012 and won the prestigious NATYS Award 2019. Njambi has received acclaim from major press ‘Important Voice’ The Times ‘Trailblazing’ The Guardian, ‘Deliciously Tart lines’ The Evening Standard, ‘Master of finding humour in harrowing places’ The Metro.

Njambi has appeared on Channel 4, BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Radio 4 Front Row, A Good Read, Saturday Morning Live, LBC amongst others. She is a TikTok sensation with over 2 million views with her viral videos. .

On the continued working relationship with Jacaranda Books and the expansion of her literary offerings, McGrath says, ‘words cannot describe the sheer delight I feel right now. Rinsing Mūkami’s Soul will be published in February 2024 in Hardback.
