Laure Deprez acquires Radhika Jha's My Beautiful Shadow
Jacaranda Books’ newly appointed editor Laure Deprez has acquired UK & Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada & India) for Radhika Jha’s latest novel My Beautiful Shadow from Laura Susjin at The Susjin Agency. The novel was first published by HarperCollins India and translations have sold into multiple territories including Russia, Italy, Spain and France where the book is seeing significant sales.
Deprez said of the acquisition “We are convinced My Beautiful Shadow will captivate the British and Commonwealth audience and stand out in the market, thanks to its poetry, depth and Radhika’s understanding of the condition of the modern women in Japan, a country torn between Western and Eastern culture.”
Radhika joins a list of recent acquisitions for the company including a political satire from Nigerian debut novelist and journalist Anietie Isong entitled Radio Sunrise. With regards to the company’s recent acquisitions Jacaranda’s founder and publisher, Valerie Brandes, commented, “I feel that the current crop of new titles reflect the growth in acquisitions for the company and are a solidification of our ethos to publish new voices and diverse stories.”
