Jacaranda acquire Taty Went West by Nikhil Singh

In a pre-Frankfurt deal, Jacaranda Books has acquired Taty Went West, a stunning debut novel by South African artist and writer Nikhil Singh from Sarah Such of Sarah Such Literary Agency.

Described by Arthur C. Clarke Award-winner Lauren Beukes as ‘a hallucinogenic post-apocalyptic carnival ride’, the novel is packed with spectacular, original illustrations and written in the author’s unique style.

The deal is for UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Jacaranda Books will publish Taty Went West in October 2017 with Nikhil Singh promoting widely in both the UK and South Africa on publication. An accompanying original soundtrack taken from the novel will be included in the Ebook edition. Taty Went West was longlisted for the The Kwani? Manuscript Project and published by Kwani? Trust in Kenya to acclaim. Singh has since appeared at major literary festivals in the African continent and the UK to talk about Taty Went West, including Africa Writes Festival 2016 at the British Library and Africa Utopia Festival 2015 at the South Bank.

 

Nikhil Singh is an artist, writer, musician and film-maker. Former projects include the graphic novels: Salem Brownstone written by John Harris Dunning (longlisted for the Branford Boase Award, Walker Books 2009) as well as The Ziggurat (Bell-Roberts 2003) by The Constructus Corporation (now Die Antwoord). His work has also been featured in various magazines including Dazed, i-D Online, Creative Review, as well as Pictures and Words: New Comic Art and Narrative Illustration (Laurence King, 2005).
